Key Note speaker: Matthew Wallden (Faculty Member, CHEK Europe)

Flatten Your Abs Forever

Matthew originally qualified as an osteopath & naturopath in London. Later, while working clinically and lecturing on osteopathic technique, he completed a post-graduate Master’s degree in Osteopathic Medicine before embarking on the C.H.E.K Practitioner Program. Matthew has spoken at many international conferences, runs various professional forums and has written a number of peer-reviewed articles. Matthew's work is his passion; he loves to help people to better health through coaching and treating patients.

Everyone dreams of flat abs, but all too often sees little or no result from exercise or dieting – the dreaded paunch remains despite being able to perform hundreds of crunches! This lecture explains all the reasons why your exercise program may not be getting the results it should. Learn the common problems that prevent people from achieving flat abs including ineffective exercise programming, poor nutritional habits, hormonal imbalance, gynecological and gastro-intestinal disorders and much more. Understand important factors to look for when assessing your clients and how multidisciplinary programs can really work to condition and flatten abdominals.

KBTEducation

Functional Training for Performance

KBTEducation's World Cup Rugby League Strength and Conditioning Director Sam Dovey will be delivering a workshop on functional training. Our seminar will also include a short section on Nutrition and Supplementation for clients and athletes, delivered by World Cup Rugby League Nutritionist John Buckland.

CHEK Europe

Practical approaches to SI joint pain

Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain is a debilitating and problematic issue; often confused with low back pain, it can have many causes. Adding to this, asymmetrical flexibility or poor posture will increase the likelihood of SI joint dysfunction and pain, particularly when additional loads are added to the body. Sound like a recipe for disaster for the uninformed personal trainer? This lecture (workshop) will provide you with the knowledge and skills to identify clients suffering from SI joint pain, and avoid creating more problems in clients who are at risk from SI joint issues. You’ll learn the C.H.E.K

Institute formula for creating effective stretching, stabilization and strengthening programs for clients with SI joint pain, and understand when you need to refer at-risk clients to seek medical assistance.

Intelligent Motion: matching the programme to behaviour

In this session we show you how to quickly identify a clients behavioural style and match the exercises and programme structure to improve client retention by delivering movement experiences they will love.

Exact Training

Behaviour change basics

There are so many models and theories surrounding behaviour change it is often hard to make any sense out of it much less figure out how to apply it to your clients. This session provides a brief overview of some of the more commonly cited theories and models and then explores a simple approach you can use and adapt for any of your clients to help support lasting behaviour change. Sarah is co-author of The Complete Guide to Behavioural Change.

Premier Training International

Foot function and running technique

Get to grips with the myths and misconceptions of the running world, as we delve into the relationship between the ground and the foot as they work together to get you moving. With many different angles on running performance we will get to the core of this contentious topic and offer a pathway to ensure you get the most out of every stride.

Life Fitness

Small Group Training [SGT]

With SGT becoming popular with both clients and members this session will aim to define SGT, and list the factors that need to be considered when planning and delivering a session for different client groups. A look at different training approaches that have proven to be effective will also be discussed.

Lincoln Bryden

Female Fat Loss Formula

Most workout programs and classes make no distinction between males and females. As far as most people are concerned it makes no difference if you are male or female, the trick is to simply eat less and exercise more. But ask any woman and they will tell you hormones matter and the female hormones can matter a lot. The female hormones play a key role in proper metabolic function from thyroid function to adrenal signaling. For those who are dealing with female specific fat loss resistance the only way to get results is to address the underlying hormonal physiology. This session is designed specifically for women and trainers that train women. It uses proven techniques that have worked for thousands of Metabolic Effect clients in the personal training environment as well as group exercise sessions.

Later Life Training

Exercise and Parkinson’s

Bhanu Ramaswamy MCSP, is a Physiotherapist specialising in the management of older adults and of people with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s. She has developed a L4 course for Later Life Training Ltd specifically aimed at exercise professionals and physiotherapists on exercising with people diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

She will present a summary of the course. This will include an overview of Parkinson’s pathology, movement dysfunction and cognitive changes, the research relating to exercise plus practical approaches, such as the use of rhythm and movement strategies to consider when deciding on the rationale of a programme you might tailor to an individual or a group with Parkinson’s.

Fitness Wales

Exercise with Chronic Fatigue Conditions

There are a growing number of conditions that fall into the Chronic Fatigue category including CFS, ME, lupus, Epstein Barr and post viral syndrome. Gentle daily activity is often recommended when clients are starting to improve however as one of the key symptoms for all these conditions is extreme fatigue it can be hard to know where to start. This session looks at the key signs, symptoms and effects of these conditions and gives considerations, advice and recommendations for activity, including effective and manageable programme design.

The Fit Box

The Goal Snowball

Ultimately we are judged on our ability to deliver results. Knowing 57 varieties of the Burpee, mastering the Olympic clean and jerk or believing in the mystical powers of high intensity interval training, are only of value to our client if their goal is to know 57 different ways to do a Burpee, compete in the Olympics or be really good at interval training.

The measure of a great trainer is not in how much cool stuff we know, but the application of these skills and knowledge in order to support our client in reaching their goals. Results driven programming is built on effective goal setting, and the Goal Snowball offers a practical modal to help us prescribe successful exercise and lifestyle strategies that link directly to our clients very personal and individual needs.
