Provisional membership is awarded for 12 months. During this time a member has to achieve Full status.
Reasons for Provisional membership and steps to take to achieve Full status:
Awarding Organisation Certificate
All current qualifications recognised by REPs are quality assured by an Awarding Organisation. On completion of a qualification you will normally first receive a certificate or a letter of completion from your Training Provider. This will allow you to join REPs as a Provisional member. Awarding Organisation certificates take longer to be delivered to the graduate. You will achieve Full status once you have sent a copy of your Awarding Organisation certificate to REPs.
Higher Education Degree
If you have joined REPs with a degree and had to complete the Higher Education application you would have been awarded a Provisional membership. As there are many types of related degrees and all with different modules it is impossible to determine whether any one degree has met the standards and includes proven practical skills in teaching health related fitness to the general public, which is a key requirement for exercise and fitness instructors. As a result, you will have to attend an Approved Test Centre where you will be assessed against the National Occupational Standards. If you are successful you will be awarded with a recognised health and fitness qualification. Alternatively, you could complete a recognised qualification by going through an Approved Training Provider.
If you are a Provisional member and neither of these options are applicable to you, please contact the office.
