Changes to PPL's Exercise Tariff to take effect from 1st May 2013
After four years of negotiation, PPL and the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) have reached agreement to reform PPL's Exercise tariff, which covers the use of recorded music in fitness classes.
The changes will impact both the fees and the way the tariff operates. From 1 May 2013, the sole responsibility for holding a PPL licence for group exercise classes held in fitness centres will be on the operators of those centres. Independent fitness instructors will still be required to hold a PPL licence for any classes that they operate on premises other than fitness centres (e.g. hired halls, offices).
The new tariff, entitled 'Exercise To Music', will take effect from 1 May 2013.

All licences, whether held by an individual instructor or by a fitness centre that are due for renewal prior to 1 May 2013 must renew as usual for a further year under the current tariff. Please read PPL's transition process guide for details of how the new tariff will relate to licences ongoing past 1 May.
