GP referrals?

What happens if I have a level 2 qualification and some
additional qualifications at level 3 because I work with special populations and some GP referrals?

The Register will award you level 3 status - but it will be provisional, and you will
be 'conditioned' to the areas of your speciality. For example, if you have a BACR qualification you will only be able to work
with cardiac rehab phase IV clients. Your REPs UK membership card will clearly state the areas that you are qualified to work in.
Provisional members are afforded one year to move to full status. For further information

What does provisional status mean?

There are a large number of people who work in the fitness industry who have a wide range
of professional experience, and a number of qualifications and training awards, but these qualifications don't appear on our
approved qualifications schedule. The Register recognises the vast experience that people have, but awards provisional status.
There are six reasons why provisional status will be given:
- They hold an old qualification that does not adequately compare to present standards.
- They have insufficient qualifications, but have gained significant industry experience,
to apparently substantiate the level and job function that they operate at.
- They have a non-UK based qualification that has not been mapped to the REPs technical criteria
- They hold a higher education awarded qualification (degree, diploma, masters, etc.) that identifies
high levels of knowledge, but does not prove occupational competency
- They have moved to a higher placing on the Register by gaining a level 2 qualification and
then by completing some endorsed training - typically Wright Foundation, Gayton Group and BACR move to level 3
on a temporary basis.
- They are level 1, and should be working towards a level 2 qualification
What do levels and categories mean?

There are presently three levels and over fourty separate categories. A full explanation
of these is given in our membership section
A new 4th level of qualification is being developed. Your registration level and categories are shown your individual
certificate of registration.
Do I need further training when on the Register?

Yes, it is important to keep your knowledge and skills up to date - it's called
Continual Professional Development (CPD). Full details are available on this Website
Will there be an appeal process if refused entry?

Yes, there is a Professional Practice Committee who will decide any appeals.
Please contact the Register's office
Can the public contact the Register to complain about an exercise
professional?

Yes, and if the Registrar is unable to resolve the matter it will be referred to the
Professional Practice Committee. The Registrar will expect employers to deal with their own disciplinary issues - but to
inform the Registrar of instances of alleged professional misconduct or breaches of the Code of Ethical Practice.
