Keep healthy - stay healthy

As part of its 10th anniversary celebrations the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) is running a consumer awareness campaign designed to tell the general public about REPs, the work it does and the importance of using a REPs registered instructor.

Nearly 28,000 fitness professionals around the country are members of the Register, from gym instructors and Personal Trainers to yoga and Pilates teachers, and all are committed to improving the health of the nation.

REPs was set up in 2002 to help safeguard and protect the interests of people engaging the services of fitness professionals.

By choosing a REPs registered instructor you know they have:

  • met agreed National Occupational Standards (which set out the knowledge, competence and skills required)
  • recognised and appropriate professional qualifications
  • agreed to commit to ongoing professional development and learning
  • comprehensive insurance cover.

All REPs members also agree to be bound by its Code of Ethical Conduct

In the same way you would always ask a Gas Safe plumber to fix your boiler, would you trust your health to anyone other than a REPs’ registered instructor? To find your nearest REPs registered instructor or to check your trainer is a REPs member click here.

REPs’ first-ever member Dean Eddy says: "As a properly qualified Personal Trainer I was horrified by some of the ‘training’ I witnessed on the gym floor so when I saw an advert for REPs it made perfect sense for me to join. I wanted (and still want) to be recognised as a professional and ethically I feel it is important to have some kind of governing body to bring standards to the industry."
