Joining REPs with UK Qualifications
Standards
REPs do not develop standards
The standards that describe the knowledge, competencies and skills needed to perform specific job roles are developed by SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure and Wellbeing and are aligned to National Occupational Standards (NOS).
These standards are developed in to qualifications by awarding bodies which are then delivered by training providers and quality assured by the awarding body.
Beware of Non-Approved Training
There are many training providers in our sector that deliver training. However, not all of them deliver SkillsActive Approved Qualifications recognised by the Register. Non approved qualifications DO NOT give entry to the register. For details on training providers NOT recognised click here
Approved Qualifications
The good news is there are many training providers whose qualifications have SkillsActive Approval and are therefore recognised by REPs. These qualifications have been developed specifically for the fitness industry focusing on teaching and instructing safe and effective exercise and exercise programmes for a wide range of participants and are certified through the following awarding bodies;
- Active IQ
- Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ)
- City and Guilds
- Edexcel
- EDI
- LifetimeAwarding
- NCFE
- OCR (Formally RSA)
- Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)
- VTCT (post September 2007)
Please check with your training provider that the qualification will give entry to REPs as not all qualifications certified via these awarding bodies give entry.

Older Qualifications
REPs recognises that there are a number of practicing fitness professionals who hold older qualifications that may not meet the current industry standards having qualified a number of years ago. Subject to qualifications held and industry experience instructors with these older qualifications may be accepted on to the REPs with either Full or Provisional membership status. For further details on joining with older qualifications click here
How To Register
If you hold approved qualifications joining REPs is relatively simple. All you need to do is submit a Registration Form along with an industry CV, PHOTOCOPIES of qualifications (these must be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from a responsible person, such as a Manager, Doctor, Teacher, Solicitor etc confirming that they have seen the originals) confirmation of adequate Civil Liability cover (can be purchased through REPs), registration fee and insurance fee (where purchased).
